Fallout 76 – Not A Single-Player RPG Anymore, Will There Be VR?

Just today, Fallout 76 was announced and we’ve seen a brief trailer of the game, giving us some hints about the game. The setting of the game seems sufficiently Fallout in nature, but it seems like Fallout 76 won’t be having the traditional single-player RPG that we’re thinking it will be. Is it a good move for Bethesda? Also, with the success of Fallout 4 VR, will there be a Fallout 76 VR game version also?
Why the game is called Fallout 76?
The game is named Fallout 76 after the series’ Vault 76. This has been mentioned in both Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. According to Fallout lore, this Vault 76 was meant to open just 20 years after the nuclear war. This will allow for a far less civilized setting than previous Fallout games. Unlike the previous Fallouts that take place over 200 years after the war, Fallout 76 will feel very much different. As the narrator of the trailer says: “When the fighting is stopped, and the fallout has settled, you must rebuild.”
Fallout 76 Not A Single-Player RPG Anymore?
According to Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, who’s known for always being right about the unannounced games info, Fallout 76 will be an online survival game. Meaning, we won’t be experiencing the traditional Fallout RPG we’ve come to know. Along with the Fallout 76’s announcement, he tweeted a couple of times adamantly that those who are expecting that this game will have the traditional single-player RPG will be VERY MUCH disappointed. It’s a bold claim really, but he is a reputable games journalist with a clear history of knowing things before it happen, so we can assume that there’s some truth to his statements.
Jason Schreier tweeted:
From what I’ve heard, Fallout: 76 is an online game of some sort. Developed by BGS in both Maryland and Austin (formerly Battlecry)
Because I’ve seen some people misinterpreting this tweet, I did NOT say this is an MMO. I just know it’s not strictly single-player. Also, lol
Shortly after these tweets, Schreier also released a report saying that the game is an online survival RPG in the same vein as games like DayZ and Rust. He also claims to have other reliable sources that have corroborated this information
“Originally prototyped as a multiplayer version of Fallout 4 with the goal of envisioning what an online Fallout game might look like, Fallout 76 has evolved quite a bit over the past few years, those sources said. It will have quests and a story, like any other game from Bethesda Game Studios, a developer known for meaty RPGs like Skyrim. It will also feature base-building—just like 2015’s Fallout 4—and other survival-based and multiplayer mechanics, according to those sources. One source cautioned that the gameplay is rapidly changing, like it does in many online “service” games, but that’s the core outline.”
Will There Be A Fallout 76 VR version?
As of now, there’s no confirmation yet from Bethesda if there will be Fallout 76 VR. But since they are into VR, who just re leased Fallout 4 VR last December, VRHeads can just hope that they are prepping a VR version of Fallout 76 (with everything about the original Fallout 76 game, including the gory gunplay and the thrilling the storyline). All that we have for now are merely speculations.
If there’s any truth to all of these rumors, it would make sense that this game isn’t called Fallout 5. Maybe they are reserving that main numbered title, for the traditional Fallout single-player RPG. For the next few weeks, we’ll just have to wonder what Fallout 76 could be while waiting for more hints, videos, and information at Bethesda’s E3 Showcase.
Note: The Bethesda E3 Showcase will be live streaming on Sunday, June 10 at 6:30 pm PT.
